Lipgloss and Black

Last Friday I won 2 free tickets to see The Clothing Show (although I was prepared to buy them to check out and support Sylvia and her sister Sam, who were featuring their fashion line, Lipgloss and Black) at Exhibition Place in Toronto.

I only attended Friday, because I was in Mississauga on Saturday (met Patrick Chan, SCORE! It was full of win, btw). I dropped by the Periwinkle booth, which housed the Lipgloss and Black collection, but Sylvia was nowhere to be found! I was then told that Sylvia was working at the Periwinkle store (on Bloor, near Runnymede station). So Aug & I missioned to Runnymede, about 45 minutes away from the Exhibition Place.

When I got there, Sylvia immediately recognized me and remembered my name! THIS GIRL IS FULL OF WIN.

Oh, I think I should tell a backstory:

In 2004, Sylvia and I were LiveJournal friends. She made these awesome bags that sold like hotcakes, and eventually branched out to jersey knit dresses. Mainly, though, I friended her because she had an awesome A-line haircut and studied Chemical Engineering! Super smart & talented!! What a gal, eh?

One day she posted pictures of her trip to Kolkatta, India… and I thought, what are the chances? Could she be Hakka-Chinese like me too? So I asked her, and we found out that our fathers went to school with each other! AHAHAH crazy stuff!

Anyway, 6 years later, we finally meet and chat and stuff. But I shamelessly walked into the store 5 minutes before it closed and I felt bad that I was holding up her closing. I found the bow hairband I wanted and bought it, and let her close up.

I love love love it! It’s not attached to a conventional hair band, but a really soft sequined elastic band which seamlessly sits on my hair. You can find the same one at her online Etsy store:

Someday I’ll return for the Single Strong Shoulder Dress that I am salivating over. I don’t know where I’d wear it to, but it would be a lovely dress to have.
