Black and white make blue?

I’d like to tell you that I put a lot of thought into this look.. you know.. like how the checkered pants would be ace with the striped top, a black silk scarf a great finishing touch and the blue shoe a delicious pop…

The truth is, I was running mega late so I grabbed what intuitively made sense at the time, fumbled at putting it all on and flew out the door with not so much even a glance at the mirror.  I didn’t notice how interesting the outfit turned out until I came home from after an 8-hour day of work and took a closer look into the mirror to examine my increasingly prominent dark circles.  I need to adopt this grab-and-go method of dressing more often!

I’m wearing..

Top: Zara (I got this 4 years ago.  Can’t believe the stripes trend is still going strong!)
Pants: H&M
Belt: Hugo Boss
Silk Scarf: Diesel
Shoes: Oxbridge Town from Hong Kong

  1. Ah, you looks so nice! The contrast is so good! And the colours match… !! The hair is in a great do too! :D It’s awesome you can put something like this together when you’re running late!!

  2. I’m so glad you showed the shoes, they really complement the outfit nicely. Love how you mixed the prints of similar shades and added the blue shoes. You have great instincts – my own grab and go method is pretty lacking and results …not so good.

  3. WOW! you pulled off the mixture of stripes and plaid! to be honest, i’d never even dare to try to do such a thing, only because i know i’d look ridiculous!

seems like the grab and go works well for you :) i look forward to see the result of the next one :) .

  4. You already know how I feel about opposing prints, and this is yet another piece of evidence that mixing prints is fucking brilliant. This outfit is a very thereafterish outfit. I would wear everything you’re wearing.

Where do you work? I know I’ve done some back story reading on both you Tines, but I forget again.

The neck tie is very me, as well. I think you and I share so many dressing sensibilities! You look so fab, and your expression on these photos is fantastic and exuberant!

    XX.
    Mae Lu, thereafterish.

    • Mixing prints is tricky, I agree. But I think as long as they’re in similar scales (e.g. not wide gingham pattern with micro zebra print just look weird) then it just seems to work. Colours of each print also determine how well they will mix together :) I don’t know if any of this makes sense but.. yeah..lol.

  5. stripes are classic and very French. I’m positive that they’re here to stay :D And I love your take on mixing prints. It looks quirky but also sooooo right :) the neck scarf is a very smart addition to the look ;)
