Is that old skirt new?

I am about to make a shocking confession.  Brace yourself.  Are you ready?  Okay I’m just gonna blurt it out..  I’m not a fan of vintage shopping. There, I said it.  It was blasphemy to your ears, wasn’t it?  This skirt is one of the very few vintage purchases I’ve made in my life, and I only picked it up because I felt like I needed “vintage” experience as a fashion blogger.  Davis was also there to give me an extra boost.  I absolutely adore clothes from the past eras, but I can’t get past the smell of vintage stores and the thought of putting on something previously owned by a stranger.  Thank God my mom was a stylish woman, otherwise I would forever be deprived of beautiful things of the past.

I must say though, after wearing this skirt a few times, I’ve gathered up a bit of courage to give this vintage thing another try.  In the name of fashion, I shall prevail!!  Gahhhhh Justine, I need your help.

What are your honest thoughts about vintage shopping?  Perhaps you have some tips to help me appreciate this “art”?

I am wearing..

Blouse: Mom’s closet
Belt: Mom’s closet
Skirt: 69 Vintage Store (on Queen St W, Toronto)
Shawl Cardigan: GAP

  1. I love love love the combination, soft peachy top with a low-keyish green skirt.

My secret to vintage shopping: do it online. Vintage shopping in actual vintage shops also get the best of me and I can’t stand the smell. I scour Etsy and take a gamble with how it might look on me, 9 out of 10 times it’s a happy ending :)

My favourite Etsy vintage sellers are:
    Ellen Lee
    Shrinkle
    Two Birds Vintage

No need to bid, just add to cart and pay with Paypal. I highly recommend it to get vintage stuff without the stink!

  2. haha i’m [somewhat] taking care of myself… and yeahh i love EL nail polish, i should do a post of my nail polish one day :P
and i absolutely love the green skirt, i love the pattern on it and the colour looks great on you.
and i love vintage anything.. well most of it :P but i don’t shop vintage.. everything i own that’s “vintage” comes from my mom’s closet but i love this site when it comes to vintage clothing http://www.modcloth.com/ it has a feel of retro as well… but if i were to shop online for vintage, it would be here, its a bit pricey though

vintage doesn’t goes out of style ^^

  3. GET IT GIRL!! Look at you! I think that skirt isn’t anything I’ve seen you in before and I LOVE it. Your mom rocks. I haven’t been “vocal” with my comments lately but I have been keeping an eye on you and girl you are FIRE! Also, I’m picky about how fabrics feel on my skin, and typically I wouldn’t wear the fabric of the lovely green wrap…but you make me wanna bite my lip and bare it to be fabulous.

  4. lol you should’ve said hi to me! I walk through there when I go to school so it probably was me..
did I look at you or see you? I THINK I remember recently seeing someone who looked like you but I don’t remember where..

  5. I don’t know how to do vintage, but if I did, it would be in Toronto, and I’d probably buy the hell out of it.

Most of my clothing is new, or old because I’ve had it for years… But not vintage. Sigh.

  6. i guess vintage usually relates to certain eras?? but old is old to me. the things i pulled out of my motherload from ten years ago seems vintage to me, lol! i’ve never had THE vintage experience becuase we don’t have any stores here other than goodwill and savers. if an opportunity presented itself, i’d go…not because of the “vintage”, but because of the shopaholic in me. i shop anywhere. i love the color and texture of the top…it gives the dark skirt & sweater…oomph.
