When I Grow Up

During my high school days, I had formulated a mental image of what I projected myself to look like “when I grow up”.  Fast forward to today, I’m somewhat grown up therefore somewhat able to look the way I wanted.

All white, always all white.  That’s how I envisioned it, particularly with this face.

Coral-some

You might recall that once upon a time, I publicly admitted to not being fan of vintage shopping.  Would you believe me if I told you that this outfit is vintage from head-to-toe?

Instead of trying to brave through racks of second-hand clothes that smell like a mixture of mothballs and old people, I’ve taken Justine’s advice and looked online for a more pleasant shopping experience.  I have acquired several pieces from different eras of fashion history at the comfort of my own home and the results have been very encouraging.  Online shopping does not give you the perk of trying before buying, but sellers are usually very good with providing exact measurements of their garments.  As long as you are equipped with measuring tape and have a general idea of shapes that flatter your body, you can totally do online vintage.  I am a believer!  Justine would be so proud.

Fashion is fortunately cyclical, so let’s not fool ourselves into thinking that the coral/orange trend is somehow a new wave and that you have to buy something offered at a store today.  This is a dress from the 60′s.  Super en pointe for this season.  I belted it because everyone belts everything these days.  I am probably nuts, but I actually like the dress without a belt, which is probably the way people wore the pussybow dress back in the 60′s.  Just trying to be historically correct!

I’ve been RM MAC’d

If you’ve been around the fashion blogosphere, you’re sure to have seen floating around different versions of the Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Clutch, aka RM MAC.  I can totally see why the purse has skyrocketed to it bag status.  The MAC is offered in so many colours, textures and patterns that there’s bound to be one for you.  For a while now, I’ve had my heart set on either the black one with gold hardware or Aqua snakeskin.

In the spirit of adventure, I threw myself a curveball and got the Dusty Lilac.  Ouuu a muted pink/lilac purse!  I’m living life on the edge!  Hey, you know I’m not usually a fan of muted colours, so this is a bit of a jump for me.

On the Verge of Something Wonderful

Sometime life calls for a badass moment, when you just want to break free from the rules that govern your life and throw all conventionality out the window.  I find myself experiencing these moments more often than ever before.  2012 might very well be a year of me doing me.  Time to rock!  Happy New Year, buddies.

Winter fruits

Dearest friends, welcome to Winter!  We’re getting sub-zero temperatures in Toronto and a bit of that fluffy white stuff that some people seem to be a fan of.  Like my girl Justine, I too haven’t bought anything new in the longest time.  You can expect to see some extremely old stuff being worn in the next little while because I likely won’t be acquiring much of anything this season.  Now that I’m someone’s fiancée, my mind is always thinking about the dough I can save for the future.  Sigh.. is this what growing up is all about?  So boring.  haha

Not ready to grow up yet!

autumn-matic

Still alive and kickin’!  A week ago, Davis surprised me with a little accessory for the fourth finger of my left hand, so my mind has been preoccupied with things that come after.  Hope everyone’s keeping warm and looking awesome doing it. For the record, I still haven’t put away my summer clothes. Welcome to my delusional mind.

Flying to the moon and back

My obsession with capes (as seen here) shows no sign of stopping.  Well, of course not.. That’s like asking Superman if he gets tired of that red thing on his shoulders.  This convertible cape/top/coat thing I recently picked up is pretty much the Magic Bullet of clothing.  It can be worn in a variety of ways to suit different wardrobe needs.  So much fun.

I was practicing my flying.

The tiered-back is lovely too.

Falling for Cougar Boots

Matchstick has graciously offered to send me a pair of Pillow Boots from Cougar Boots to review and style.  Of course I jumped at the chance!  It’s illegal to say no to shoes.  Besides, I am all about supporting companies which spring from my country’s red and white grounds.  I have utmost faith that a Canadian company would turn out a boot worthy of engaging in battle with our cold and wet elements.  Hardcore as these Pillow Boots are (pillows are SO hardcore!), they have a soft and cushion-y inside too.  I felt so comfortably protected and invincible that I wanted right away to jump into a big pile of snow, but I guess nature can’t be hurried.

The Pillow Boots come in a variety of colours, but the tan with red fleece lining is LIMITED EDITION!  Can’t ever go wrong with Limited Edition.  (Side story, in the makeup world, we call them “LE”.  And we looooove our LEs!)

I can imagine getting a lot of use out of these when the snow hits.  Check out the store locator to find out where to purchase yours!

Special thanks to Davis for snapping these shots!

Hold on to me

Unfortunately, it’s too cold to dress like this now.  Toronto has been getting some chilly temperatures already. I guess it’s time to bust out those opaque black tights again!  Just as well, because despite my best efforts, the pasty legs just refused to adopt any colour.  Softball, jogs and camping apparently weren’t enough to beat them into submission.   Summer, you really weren’t that hot, but I’ll miss you anyway.

What are you gonna miss the most about Summer fashion?  SHORTS for me.
