Adding Winter to my Summer

I love the lush colours of Fall / Winter fashion.  Rich shades like burgundy, maroon, navy, chocolate brown seem to permeate even the most hidden corners of my soul.  Like the refreshing appearance of Justine’s winter tights, I decided to let my little winter buddies come out to play in the heat.  The closet can be so imprisoning!  I was starting to get sick of the nudes and pales anyway… (Wow, I just blasphemed?)  Time for some serious colour saturation for the eyes!

I am wearing..

Shirt dress:  H&M
Lambskin Leather Bow Belt:  Hugo Boss
Purse:  Danier
Pendant:  A random booth of a cultural festival at Dundas Square
Lipstick:  Sephora (I think the shade is discontinued?  I got it for $5 on clearance)

Make your presence known by hiding yourself.

I must be absolutely out of my mind for putting on a turtleneck in this weather, but I couldn’t help but try out the upcoming Autumn season. I rarely wear turtlenecks because my neck is already short and I’m always trying to find ways to make my neck look longer without subjecting others to the awful deep v-neck tops out there. Turtleneck tops are mainly worn if you have a swan-like long neck, or for functional reasons and do not care that it will make you look like you’ve got no neck.

I think I’ll start wearing turtlenecks more often this upcoming Autumn seasons because there is something very mysterious and strangely alluring about covering up all the way up to your face. It’s kind of following the Mary-Kate Olsen philosophy… there is something strangely attractive about piling up on layers and covering yourself up. Make your presence known by hiding yourself.

And there is also something endearing about oversized long sleeves. It helps me hide a cell phone in my hand without appearing rude and “always in need of checking messages” LOL. I admit, I am kind of addicted to getting updates on Twitter. You never know when there will be free ticket giveaways or when OldSpice or The Sulk tweets something hilarious to brighten up your day!

Ben, See my Bensimon!

Keds?  Nah..

Converse?  But everyone and their toddlers and dogs have them..

Vans?  I’m not much of a sk8rgirl.

But I needed some comfortable canvas shoes, so I picked up a pair of Bensimon.  Oh I’m so sure you know all about these sneakers already.  They’re said to be the default shoe for French girls on-the-go.  Apparently Bensimon has a cult following in France and every girl has at least one pair.  Mais bien sûr! Such magnetizing yet simple little guys, aren’t they.  Other than my sorry français which I have actually spent 8 odd years studying and an insatiable appetite for macarons, croissants, mille-feuilles…. (Oh my gosh where is this going!!), these Bensimons are just about as Parisian as I am gonna get.  Beyond their feminine at the same time boyish charm, they are also easily maintained – just toss them in the washing machine and they will come out clean and cute like the day you bought them.

We all need comfortable shoes to survive!  What’s your favourite pair of play shoes?

I am wearing..

Tunic (tucked in):  Halogen
Skirt:  GAP
Belt (My Carrie Bradshaw belt!!!):  Forever 21

Hello, Ruelo.

WHOA HOLD ON.

IS THIS A FOOD & FASHION POST?

WHY YES IT IS.

Sadly, this is the best photo of my outfit for Saturday night. Sometimes I wish I had a hologram take my outfit photos for me. I’m too lazy to bring out my tripod and take multiple shots until I get a good one. Yikes, sounds like I’m losing the flame D: but I still love to dress up, no worries. I’m just having a darn diddly difficult time capturing it.

This weekend was a birthday celebration for a friend and we went to an Indian restaurant, a bubble tea place, and a patisserie which was heavily documented in photos by me. However, the place was kind of dim so I had the ISO setting at 6400, making the photos super grainy D: I don’t think I needed to do that, but I had a food coma so I wasn’t thinking straight.

We went to Ruelo in Richmond Hill, a fabulous authentic French patisserie. The owner and primary chef is a very pretty lady who goes by the name of Jackie. She graduated from the University of Toronto in Computer Engineering (uh, SEXY) and later studied to become a pastry chef at Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa.

The pastries include these shiny dome thingies (I forgot what they were called), MACARONS (very expensive cookies but oh so good…I loved the Espresso one), and cakes. Oh my lordie, it was NIRVANA in a pastry.

Oh, and their teas are AMAZING. When you go to Ruelo, you need to DO IT UP. It’s expensive, but damnit, you don’t do it often so get the whole nine yards! Macarons! Cakes! Teas! Wear pretty clothes! Bring your awesome friends!!!!!

We took lots of pictures, of course. And one creepy dude decided he wanted to be part of the fun too:
