Coral-some

You might recall that once upon a time, I publicly admitted to not being fan of vintage shopping.  Would you believe me if I told you that this outfit is vintage from head-to-toe?

Instead of trying to brave through racks of second-hand clothes that smell like a mixture of mothballs and old people, I’ve taken Justine’s advice and looked online for a more pleasant shopping experience.  I have acquired several pieces from different eras of fashion history at the comfort of my own home and the results have been very encouraging.  Online shopping does not give you the perk of trying before buying, but sellers are usually very good with providing exact measurements of their garments.  As long as you are equipped with measuring tape and have a general idea of shapes that flatter your body, you can totally do online vintage.  I am a believer!  Justine would be so proud.

Fashion is fortunately cyclical, so let’s not fool ourselves into thinking that the coral/orange trend is somehow a new wave and that you have to buy something offered at a store today.  This is a dress from the 60′s.  Super en pointe for this season.  I belted it because everyone belts everything these days.  I am probably nuts, but I actually like the dress without a belt, which is probably the way people wore the pussybow dress back in the 60′s.  Just trying to be historically correct!

Put some pants on!

My affection for pants predates any fashion awareness.  Not that I had a word of complaint when mom put me in cutesy skirts and dresses, I just really envied the boys who created havoc freely without the worry of diaper flash (what a fashion faux pas!).  Jeans had no love from me though; I thought the material was too stiff and rough.  In my high school years, while everyone was rocking flare jeans (yes, I’m old), I wore stuff like orange modrobes (the ones with the seatbelt-like buckle), baggy red pants, white dress pants and pink fleece sweats.  Fast forward to today, my sense of adventure with trousers remains.  I could easily do without wearing denim for the rest of my life, but deep depression would reduce me to a pantless mess if I had to live without my beloved pants collection.  Now that you got me talking about my favourite thing in the world, I am seriously considering busting out said orange modrobes!  One of these days, my friends..

Here’s a trouser with a different silhouette than usual.  I’m totally nailing Style Goal #4!

The pockets won me over.
